Our Commitment to a Safe, Inclusive Community
At Forró Academy, we’re proud to foster a welcoming, respectful space for all dancers—whether in our classes, workshops, socials, or festivals. We have a zero‑tolerance policy on all forms of harassment, misconduct, or unwelcome behaviour.
What Harassment Means to Us
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Unwelcome verbal remarks, jokes, or insults (including sexual, racial, disability‑based, gender‑based, or other).
- Uninvited physical contact—especially in partner dancing—beyond what’s appropriate to the movement.
- Persistent advances, requests, or behaviour that make someone feel unsafe or demeaned.
- Any conduct that creates an intimidating, hostile, or exclusionary environment.
What We Expect from Everyone
- Respect personal boundaries: always ask consent before initiating a dance, close hold, or physical adjustment.
- Be mindful: if someone communicates discomfort—verbally or non‑verbally—immediately adjust course or distance.
- Respect diversity: Forró Academy is a space for all backgrounds, identities, orientations, ages, and experiences.
Reporting Concerns
- If you witness or experience harassment, please let us know:
- Contact our staff by email at info@forroacademy.co.uk or in person at our London class venues.
- Please submit a brief written account—including date, location, persons involved, and what happened.
- Tell us what outcome you’d like—such as mediation, an apology or banning a participant.
We promise to:
- Acknowledge receipt within 2 working days,
- Conduct a prompt, confidential review,
- Take swift action—ranging from a warning to removal from classes or events.
Protection Against Retaliation
We guarantee that reporting in good faith will never lead to retaliation. Forró Academy is committed to protecting everyone who raises a concern or assists with an investigation.
Supporting Everyone
When you’re in our classes, parties, or festivals:
- We encourage friendly and inclusive social dancing.
- But enthusiastic social interaction must always respect others’ autonomy and comfort.
Why You’ll Stay Connected
This policy ensures that everyone can share in the energy of forró—moving, learning, and connecting—within a space of trust and mutual respect.
